Don Hill and Gaye Downing

from the 26th July to the 18th August 2013

Don Hill is a recognised artist well known for his ability to paint horses and portray the New Zealand high country. He captures the majesty of our beautiful deep south mountains with the vastness of our southern landscapes giving the feelings of grandeur. The creamy surface of the oil paint and the often rugged subject matter offer a wonderful contrast.

Gaye Downing, a newcomer to the art world, has always had a passion for painting especially the 'old style' still life.

"I love working in oils and use the Alla-Prima method of working 'wet in wet'. Taking simple objects and creating beautiful paintings, reminiscent of a bygone era. My inspiration has come from artists such as Richard Schmid, Pino, Raphaelle Peale and John Singer Sargent to name but a few".

With 26 years as a Commercial Artist & Graphic Designer, Gaye has a keen eye for detail and is a perfectionist. These qualities come through in her paintings, whether commissioned or displayed in galleries.
