Donna Lee
from the 28th September to the 20th October 2013
Donna is a Napier based artist who has always been a keen oil painter, however it wasn't until she started lessons with local artist Brent Redding 3 years ago, that her true ability began to emerge. Her first ever entry into a art competition earlier this year, saw her win the Colour & Light Section in the Art Hawkes Bay Annual Exhibition.
In 2007 Donna mustered cattle on horseback in the outback of Australia, in a small town called Dajarra, close to Mount Isa in Queensland. This unique experience teamed with such a different landscape and lifestyle inspired her to try and capture her memories with paint.
A trip to the local Mohaka Rodeo (up the Napier/ Taupo road) earlier this year supplied the other half of the subject matter for her first exhibition. Donna recalls attending this rodeo as a child with her family, so it holds special memories for her.
