Lee Gaylor

from the 24th November to the 22nd December 2022

Lee Gaylor

Painter- Composer Lee Gaylor was born in London in 1962. Although drawn to study music at Auckland University in the early 1980s, he had from an early age been interested and engaged in the visual arts, being well known in intermediate school for his absurdly muscular depictions of super heroes, an enthusiasm he has mercifully since dropped.

After University he rented an art studio in Auckland central, a rather uncongenial environment owing to the fact that one of his co-renters was continually quizzical about his artistic experiments, as on one notable occasion when he (Lee) happened to be painting rather abstract charging knights on pink florescent cardboard. During and after this period Lee exhibited works in several central Auckland galleries.

Alongside musical composition, Lee maintained his interest in painting over the years and went "full time, flat tack" in 2019. He has since been selling works within and without N.Z and recently held a successful and well received 50 paintings exhibition at Napier's C.A.N. gallery.
