Michael Blow, Ion Brown, Brent Redding
from the 9th November to the 1st December 2013
Three nationally renowned artists from Hawke's Bay are exhibiting their latest work in a combined exhibition "Three Man Show".
Michael Blow, Brent Redding and Ion Brown each draw immense attention whenever they exhibit, but to have them in one show is a visual treat to treasure. Exhibiting together has been something the award-winning artists have been looking forward to.
Blow said his search for subject matter over the years had taken him to many places around the world. "This year, I found inspiration much closer to home in the tiny township of Te Pohue. It came about when I joined a film crew working here on a documentary about medieval knights as they train and prepare to represent New Zealand at the 2014 Battle of the Nations in Luxembourg. Such magical characters caught my imagination, and their quest seemed like a metaphor for mankind's search for the purpose of life."
Redding is renowned for his ability to portray the temperamental qualities that light can play on his subjects, at any time of the day. "I am intrigued by light; its ability to elucidate or obscure, clarify or mystify. My interest is capturing the moods it creates in the landscape; a late afternoon haze, a moonrise, an approaching storm".
Ion Brown shows a penchant for people, places and play. "I passionately enjoy painting New Zealand people going about their work and leisure and capturing the special light and atmosphere that our landscape provides. I have pursued my own style of painting and studied the world artists that adopted Impressionist style"
