Megan Schmidt

from the 8th May to the 26th May 2013

After returning from an art project in Austin Texas Nov 2011 where I had collaborated in large scale works of mixed media, the desire to quieten myself became apparent and along with this desire to settle, the interest in the classical style of painting emerged. I wanted to revisit the Impressionist, drawn as I was to their well structured compositions and soft use of capturing light with colour. The choice of painting Europeanscenes was partly due to simply picking a popular Impressionist subject. But, that wasn't my only reason for this selection.

I have noticed I tend to paint, 'location wise' places I have never been but would like too. This was true of USA having painted abstracted cityscapes I then had the opportunity to visit and live in the States and see first hand some of those big cities. So, with that in mind, I hope this means in the distance future, there will be a trip to Europe.
