Megan Schmidt

Hawkes Bay artist Megan Schmidt after completing her Masters in Fine Art, AUT has divided her time between USA and NZ conducting painting workshops and working with art projects for the last 7 years. Of recent times, (2010) she returned to the Bay, trained as Secondary School Art teacher, continued painting and had time to team up with some classical musicians in two interesting collaborations. One with: local classical violinist Gretchen Anderson and the *Shared Muse* Concert/exhibition in 2012 and the other with: Melbourne Classical Assembly* 3 Shades Black *and their improvisation concert in which Megan's 3 minute film was one of 12 works performed to.

Megan most recent direction is completely different to all other adventures to date and that is: a three month contract to Mt Eden prison as a Rehabilitation Facilitator and Education provider. Having began this in April, she is sure the experience will bubble to the surface and result in some very interesting paintings in the future.

Megan has been a finalist in the Norsewear Art Awards. She was the winner of the Best Artwork and Runner-up for Best Design in the Eastern Institute of Technology Wine Label Competition 2002. She was a finalist in the EIT wine label design in 2002 and won second prize in the Mazda Emerging Artist of NZ in 2003.
