David Thomas Artist StatementBorn in England, I began my working life training and working in a commercial / industrialphotographic studio in Portsmouth on the south coast. 8 years later, I re-trained and moved intoteaching. I remained in the classroom until moving to New Zealand in 1999. While I have alwaysmaintained an active interest in photography, I began moving from the 2D image to 3D workover the past 10 years.My work has a strong graphic element reflective of my early experience behind the camera andis influenced by the Bauhaus movement, soviet realism - sculpture in particular, graphic art,architecture, graphic and industrial design. My work considers re-engineering an essentiallygraphic image into 3D form.I am currently based in Timaru, South Canterbury
