Iwen Yong

Iwen started his career as a chartered accountant, however he always had an interest in art but did not have the opportunity to pursue it early on, until a work colleague (after seeing a whiteboard drawing he had done of his dog)  introduced him to oil painting. Since that time he has been progressing his skills mainly through books, DVDs and workshops. Most recently he sought the help of a well established NZ artist who helped him progress.

His paintings are mostly of New Zealand landscapes and predominately of the Wairarapa region, where Iwen is based.  Through his paintings he trys to convey the beauty and remoteness of the place in a contemporary modern way. He wants the viewer to feel like they are the only person in the landscape. He enjoys painting en plein air and he trys to paint outdoors whenever possible.

In 2020 Iwen became a full time artists and exhibits regularly in galleries across the Wellington region. He is also a member of the NZ academy of fine arts.

NZ artists who influence Iwen and his works include John Crump, Douglas Badcock and Peter Mcintyre.
