Bill lives in Havelock North and has worked as a newspaper photographer for more than 30 years, with the HB Herald-Tribune, The Dominion and The Dominion Post. He is now focusing on digital fine art photography.
He is influenced by surrealist artists of the twentieth-century such as Max Ernst, Salvador Dali and in particular Belgian painter Rene Magritte. Magritte's central idea was that painting must be poetry, and that poetry must evoke mystery. Bill shares this concept and leaves the viewer to interpret his images.
His images although meticulously constructed with objects juxtaposed in landscapes, sometimes quite foreign to each other, the nature of his technique leaves room for the final work to take on its own persona.
