I like to take a theme to explore.
Endless possibilities unfold.
There are however, pitfalls to be avoided.
The subject must not get in the way of the mysterious workings of paint.
To find the right balance between theme and execution is an intellectual exercise.
It must never be lost sight of that the paint is all important.
It is the painter's duty, hope and prerogative to paint well.
When I come out to my studio, I am entranced and engulfed. The stillness of the decor, the magic of the paint-I am educed to view reality in a new dimension of my own creation. The painterly osmosis has occurred. Bruises are calmed if not healed, self confidence grows. I am invaded by great love of my work. This must surely be the painter's reward.
